The Reproductive Medicine Laboratory is accredited by the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and is a member of the Society of Assisted Reproductive Technology. Having performed biopsies for genetic testing on over 12,000 embryos since 2010, our talented embryologists are highly skilled in the latest biopsy techniques, namely day 5 trophectoderm biopsy. Because of our embryologists’ extensive individual and combined experience gained in reputable fertility centers worldwide, our outstanding ability to grow healthy embryos and minimize the risks of embryo biopsy have contributed to our genomics success.
Comprehensive Chromosome Screening (CCS)
ORM is proud to have been one of the first clinics in the world to offer in-house comprehensive chromosome screening on embryos via next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology. Testing is performed at our downtown fertility center through an on-site laboratory operated by our reference lab, CooperGenomics. Having an in-house laboratory means that embryo biopsies do not need to be shipped off-site, saving time and cost to the patient. The combination of blastocyst biopsy and NGS allows for all 24 chromosomes to be counted, improving the accuracy of test results over previous biopsy techniques and genetic testing methods. In collaboration with CooperGenomics, our team published one of the very first validation studies on next-generation sequencing, and has authored numerous other publications on clinical and laboratory aspects of preimplantation genetic testing.
While routine CCS cases are tested in-house at ORM, testing for more complex preimplantation genetic diagnosis cases is done by sending cells to our reference laboratory, CooperGenomics, in Livingston, NJ or Los Angeles, CA. The personnel at CooperGenomics have been performing embryo testing since 1991 and were the first to develop PGD tests for checking the number of chromosomes in embryos. To dateCooperGenomics has performed diagnosis of over 40,000 PGD cycles, more than any other PGD laboratory in the world, and has authored hundreds of publications on PGD and CCS.
COUNSYL. We are proud to partner with Counsyl laboratory in San Francisco for our genetic carrier screening test. Since 2007, Counsyl has been a leader in this field and has worked to improve accessibility of genetic testing for all patients, now having screened over half a million patients. ORM was an early adopter of the Counsyl Family Prep Screen, a test we now offer to all ORM patients that includes DNA sequencing of >100 recessive genes that could affect your future family. Counsyl provides our patients with easy-to-understand lab reports and has over 40 genetic counselors who are easily accessible to help you understand your test results.
OTHER REFERENCE LABORATORIES. We partner with several other reputable DNA testing laboratories around the world to help our patients access specific technologies or more rarely performed genetic tests when indicated.
